To mark Cincinnati’s 52nd MLK Day March and Program, the MLK Coalition is excited to announce our 2027 theme,  “The Fierce Urgency of Now: Taking Democracy to the Streets” The MLK Jr. Coalition of Cincinnati is dedicated to preserving the memory, ideals, and philosophy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by strengthening our diverse community through promoting and practicing nonviolence, justice, and understanding. Our annual commemorative march and program is the signature event through which we celebrate Dr. King's enduring legacy and inspire collective action for a more equitable society.  We hope to see you Monday, January 18, 2027 for the Commemorative March (10:30am, National Underground Freedom Center) and Annual Program (12:00pm, Music Hall)

ARTWORK COMPETITION!

2026 MLK Jr. Day Artwork

Meet the artist Dutana D. Dutana's artwork was selected by members of the MLK Coalition as the program cover art for the 2026 MLK Day program.

Dutana D is a multidisciplinary mixed-media artist originally from Minneapolis and currently based in Cincinnati. Her work explores themes of Black creativity, cultural identity, and the intersection of art and community. Dutana D aims to challenge Black erasure and emphasize the intentionality of art as a means for communication and connection. Her work has been featured in publications such as "For Freedoms: Where Do We Go From Here?" and the "School Library Journal".



 

Drum Major Awards

The Drum Major Awards will honor 50 Cincinnatians (deceased) who made significant contributions to racial equity and inclusion. The Drum Majors embody Dr. King’s ideals of non-violence, social change, and advocacy for the marginalized. We will recognize a total of 50 Drum Majors over the course of 2025.
