How to Participate in the “Not Just One Day of Service” Challenge

Thousands of people in the greater Cincinnati area already volunteer with one of the hundreds of not-for-profits in the area.  Many more are interested in getting started.  The Martin Luther King, Jr. Coalition challenges local businesses, churches, organizations and schools to encourage their members to log their volunteer hours with the Service Challenge.  Awards for the highest number of service hours in each division will be presented on MLK Day, January 18, 2010, at Music Hall, at 12:00 PM..

Individuals not connected with a registered group may also participate by having their hours combined with others to see how many hours in the “Individuals Division” can be accumulated.  There will not be awards for the “Individuals Division,” but the total number of volunteers hours will speak volumes to all the good work happening in the area.

To register:
  • Groups, including businesses, churches, and organizations, must register by completing and mailing the Group Registration Form and the registration fee of $25.
  • Schools must complete and mail the Group Registration Form.  There is no registration fee for schools.
  • Individuals must complete and mail the Individual Registration Form.  There is no registration fee for individuals.

To volunteer:
  • Every individual must take a Volunteer Form to the volunteer site at the time of service.
  • The not-for-profit agency is asked to report the service hours to the MLK Designees listed on the form.
  • Volunteer hours need to be reported by Monday, January 11, 2010 in order to be included in the MLK Day competition and recognition.
